Mr. Perry dubbing Dublin, aliens and more

Yeah its not the kind of ad they show on the telly in america.

Untitled-1.jpgNice bit of Mr Perry “the creator of dub” he he… Dubbing around Dublin, in Stephen’s Green talking to the ducks, in the pub having a swift one.

Seems like Guinness got the man to do a bunch of these ads, is it just me or doesn’t seem like an easy job for the copywriter?

“Eh… Lee… waddya think about ehhh dem Aliens then Lee?”

DubCast#2

Dub Cast 2

In tonight’s dubcast we have a selection of mp3s and tracks from around the dubspace.

Kicking off from jahtari.org Net label, the very excellent and heavy dub “Cryovolcano” by Blue Vitriol – I imagine that’s some sort of special Swedish medicine – perhaps something to resurrect you after you are cryogenically preserved in a volcano… but we know what that dub it really is.

Then from Scotland, it’s the Butch Cassidy Sound System and their “butch’s brew” which is a sort of a version of versions, ahem, a “mega-mix” if you will of their superb album “Butches Brew” – go out and get it now.

After that its the dub and vocal digitally remixed by dub.com of the powerful African Brothers “Lead us father” on easy-star – we hear they have a follow up project to the hugely popular “dub side of the moon” called “radiodread” – it’s a dub version of radiohead’s “ok computer” – looking forward to that.

Back to Jahtari – Disrupt & the Jah Bit invasion, followed by a scratch classic – susan cadogan’s “dub it baby”… a Perry gem. Slade from Burning Babylon brings the Ethiopian flavor to the dubcast with “Addis Red Dub” – check out all the albums from Burning Babylon if you haven’t already – truly some original dub flavors and styles coming through.

The Love Grocer brings their ska on the dub-sized “waiting at the gate” – what a track – always gets the girls up to dance. We go back to a deep deep riddim dub “Soldier Red – All For Jake Weekend Dub” from a version excursion Sundyberg dub championship despiracy.com had 2 years back, a classic from Tino Corp and the superb Eating Betty check out his latest cd “Reverbalism” on cd baby.

Thanks to all the artists in tonight’s dubcast – dub.com – dub worldwide – goodnight dub fans wherever you are.

Anchormix Radio

Check out dub creating and version mixing over at Anchormix.com :
the anchormix dungeon…The goal was to pay tribute to two dub heavyweights while using the songs as elements themselves and weaving in the vocal talents of Omnibus MC. In a four-round clash, DJ’s Andren and Scott Allen took turns re-mixing, looping and dubbing each track into a brand new song. Our modern take on dub is to remix the dub tracks on the fly and create a ‘dub soundscape’ that, when mixed with live vocals provides a live element that can never be recreated.”

Lee Scratch Perry Interview

Uncarved.org has a great interview with Lee “Scratch” Perry by Danny Kelly. There’s a brilliant quote where Mr Perry claims ‘dub’ for his own “To be fair and speak the truth, it wasn’t I and Tubby who brought about dub, but I alone! In those days Tubby had a sound system and he wanted dubs for it from me. He’d come to Randy’s studio where I worked at the time and spend days watching me messing about with the controls. As my dubs got famous and people like them, so Tubby try mixing up a few sides of his own.”
